When Oedipus finds out that he caused the crimes and fulfilled his prophesy, he is distraught, but owns up for what he does. Oedipus' emotions and his guilt is very apparent and you can't help but feel bad for him because of the fact that he never knew that Laius and Jocasta were his actual parents.
He finished a prophesy unintentionally when he thought he had ran away from it, and now he's punished for what he has done, even though on the inside, he is innocent.
